I n the tragic aftermath of 26/11, and after four years of the inept Shivraj Patil, P. Chidambaram's appointment as home minister was widely welcomed.
His no-nonsense, hands-on, decisive style blew the cobwebs out of the ministry.
His austere white mundu and shirt—even if the shawl slung carelessly over his shoulders is a Pashmina—was in happy contrast to the perfectly creased bandhgalas favoured by his predecessor, and his willingness to air his views manna for a hungry press.
See how Andhra Pradesh has tackled the Maoist problem. It took central government welfare schemes to problem-hit areas, but in Chhattisgarh the government is not reaching out to the trouble-hit areas -Digvijay Singh

T he vicious pre-planned slaughter of the Sikh people in 1984 following Indira Gandhi's assassination did not just leave every Sikh traumatised.
It also deeply affected their psyche, their faith in their neighbours, in the system, in the state, in the very idea of justice itself.
For many of us non-Sikhs, it was a defining moment in our lives.

The chief minister Okram Ibobi, after a one and half hour closed door meeting with the Union home minister, P Chidambaram, came out confident he would be able to resolve both the class boycott problem as well as have the law and order situation in the state firmly back in the hands of the government.
The prolonged meeting which began at 5pm happened even as reporters waited outside the office of the Union minister expecting something sensational would happen, a reliable source in New Delhi said.

Mirwaiz Omar Farooq, Chairman of moderate faction of separatist Hurriyat Conference seemed to be conceding two facts in his Friday sermon.
One implies that he is perturbed by the media reports that he has had two rounds of "quiet talks" with Union Home Minister P Chidambaram in New Delhi.
Also, the conflict within the separatist camp on the dialogue process is not between doves and hawks alone, but the moderate group is plagued with internal strife.
There is some truth in the reports. I logically believe that P Chidambaram announced quiet dialogue in Kashmir only after his first meeting with Mirwaiz -Hurriyat Conference
